Rollers Are Back: How to Get Volume and Bounce at Home

Hair rollers are making a comeback—and for good reason! They are one of the easiest ways to create volume, movement, and a smooth, bouncy finish without relying on excessive heat.
Whether you want a full, salon-style blowout or simply need extra lift around your face, the right rollers can make a big difference.
Why Use Hair Rollers?
Rollers can help:
Add volume at the roots
Create soft movement and bounce
Smooth frizz and flyaways
Give curtain bangs and face-framing layers more shape
Help your blowout last longer
Choosing the Right Roller Size
The size of the roller affects the finished look.
Large rollers create volume, body, and a smooth blowout.
Medium rollers create more movement and a soft curl.
Small rollers create a tighter, more defined curl.
For a modern, bouncy blowout, larger rollers are usually the best choice.
How to Use Velcro Rollers
Begin with clean, completely dry hair. Apply a lightweight heat protectant and a small amount of styling product for hold.
Working in sections, use a round brush or curling iron to heat each section. While the hair is still warm, wrap it around the roller and secure it close to the scalp.
For the most volume, lift each section upward before placing the roller. Roll the front sections away from your face for a soft, flattering shape.
Allow the rollers to cool completely before removing them. Cooling is what helps set the style, so try to leave them in for at least 15–20 minutes.
Once the rollers are removed, gently separate the hair with your fingers. Finish with a light hairspray or texture spray for flexible hold.
Avoid These Common Mistakes
Do not place rollers in soaking-wet hair unless they are specifically designed for wet sets. Velcro rollers work best on dry hair.
Avoid using sections that are wider than the roller. Oversized sections will not hold their shape or create enough lift.
Most importantly, do not remove the rollers while your hair is still warm. Letting the hair cool completely is the secret to longer-lasting volume.
A Salon Finish at Home
Hair rollers are a simple way to refresh your everyday routine and extend the life of your blowout. With the right preparation, placement, and products, you can create soft, polished volume without spending extra time styling every morning.
